Resisting Temptations

Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7

Resisting temptations 1st time is the biggest challenge. To resist the temptations continuously after that is consistent and perseverance. If you are willing you will do it the 1st time. If you are patient then you will continue to do it till that thought or that temptation is defeated.

You are defeated first in your mind, before you are actually defeated in your life. So remember that resisting your temptations is very important. When you learn to drive, you don't learn it on the first day. You have to practice it till you perfect it. After perfecting it, if you stop driving, you will soon lose its touch and no longer be perfect in your judgements. That same way, you have to keep on resisting the evil thoughts till you overcome it. But don't relax and be slack, but we watchful because if those thoughts come again, you have to resist it. Then you have overcome it. Then those thoughts no longer become a temptation for you.

These thoughts are not gone forever. It will come back and if you yield to those thoughts then again you will fall in sin. After you have defeated those evil thoughts don't think it will never come back. Don't think the tempter will come with a big bang. The bible says, the devil is a deceiver. He will deceive you with small things before taking you completely out of track. Faithfulness in small things is important before you be faithful in greater things. God will give you bigger things only if you are faithful in small things.

If small thoughts of lust, adultery, addictions come, say no to it at that very moment. Don't allow it to linger in your mind. If you have good friends who talk and do good, they will of great help to you. If you read and watch good stuff it will further help you. If you think good stuff and meditate on positive things, it will keep you healthy. Don't allow sin or sinful thoughts take root in your mind and heart.
